PURPOSE OF THE VOLUNTEER POSITION

Safe Boating Ambassadors will communicate and educate waterway users about boating safety, etiquette, and new Transport Canada VORR regulations expected to come into effect in 2023. This will be done through public engagement sessions at local boat launches where volunteer Ambassadors will set up and interact with waterway users to discuss these vital topics.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF THE POSITION

Participation in training to learn the material,

Attend scheduled engagement sessions and speak with waterway users,

Prepare and submit a short engagement report after sessions to communicate with the Safe Boating Committee, and

Stay up to date with waterway safety issues and topics (the Committee will supply news and information).

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND AGE REQUIREMENTS

Exceptional communication skills,

Comfortable with talking and engaging with people,

Comfortable working outside for an extended period,

Able to work independently, and

Able to learn and retain key details.

TRAINING AND TOOLS PROVIDED

The Committee will provide training and education to volunteers. All tools/supplies will be provided.

ABOUT THE LDB SAFE BOATING AMBASSADORS

The LdB Safe Boating Ambassadors program is a community-driven initiative designed to increase boating safety and etiquette awareness in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba, specific to the Lee River and Pinawa Channel. Working together, we will contribute to the education of safe waterway use by promoting:

  1. Waterway safety, as governed by Transport Canada, and
  2. General good boating etiquette for specific activities, focusing on those that occur on our waterways.
